The loss of a loved one is something that impacts us for years to come. I recently had the privilege of helping one family through their grief process by making various memorial items for each of the members of this family. They had lost their mother and grandmother with in a few month span.
These items combined their clothing into various gifts each tailored to the recipients personalities. The customer did not have a lot of clothing pieces but I was able to maximize each piece to use in each item. We incorporated additional fabric for the quilt batting and backing.
There is really no wrong or right way to make a memorial item. I like to design my items with the person receiving them in mind.
In this collection there was a quilt and skirt that stood out to me. The pink/black quilt was for a lady named Rose. I incorporated as many of the floral aspects from her mom's dress as I could then added 3D fabric roses from the scraps I had. The skirt was for one of the great granddaughters. She has ecletic style so for this one I wanted to make it fun. I added a layer of tulle to the bottom of her skirt. I hid hand cut hearts and colorful sequins inside the tulle. It appears as if the hearts are floating. So her family members will always be close to her heart! I finished off the skirt with additonal scraps turned into 3D bows.
So how does the process work?
You can purchase the items you would like or message me prior to brainstorm something unique for you or your loved one. Then upon purchase I will message you my home address to ship your items. After receiving your items I will sketch out some of my ideas and run them by you. Then I get to work. I will try to utilize every piece you provide if additional fabric is needed we will discuss additional cost increases. I keep you updated throughout.
Scraps can be used as fun accent pieces, additional batting and/or stuffing. I will also mail back any left over scraps to you. Previous customers have used these scraps in their own craft projects.
I love adding fun homemade items (provided you let me cut them up!) Into my pieces. Crocheted doileys from grandma are some of my favorite to work with!

Memory quilts are a great option to celebrate the passing of a loved one utilizing their clothing. Sometimes that is one of the hardest things to know what to do with when cleaning up the estate of someone we love.
Memory quilts can also be created out of tshirts, baby and toddler clothing, old military uniforms or other items you may have in storage but just not sure what to do with!
Please message me if you are interested in a unique kids clothing item. The featured skirt is not included for pricing. Prices range $30-100 for custom items. Sizes up to 14 in girls.
I look forward to working with you!
